Unfortunately, several hunting dogs have died in the last few days Montalcino because of poisoned baits which have been scattered in some municipal sections. As announced byTerritorial Hunting Area of Siena, the animals have ingested the morsels in the area called “Villa a Tolli”, an area rather frequented by hunters and also for recreational reasons. Among other things, it is not the first time that poisonings of dogs and wild animals have been recorded, so much so that the State Forestry Corps had raised the alarm six months ago.
In June there were the first reports from the owners of the dogs and in that case some minced meatballs were found. The research was carried out by the Forestry itself together with the voluntary guards of hunting associations. The Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Siena is examining the baits to understand what caused the death of the animals, given that it is essential to ascertain the toxic substance used.
Unfortunately, some poisoned morsels could have escaped the Forestry, consequently citizens and hunters were asked to pay the utmost attention in case of frequentation of the area: in particular, hunting dogs must never be let loose along the route and near the rest areas.
