La Puglia region, with resolution no. 69 of 18 January 2021, modified the regional hunting calendar allowing for 5 fixed days the hunting song thrush and redwing until January 31st (the previous calendar had closed on the 20th), and for 3 fixed days to the teal, wigeon, pintail, shoveler, gadwall, mallard, coot, moorhen and water rail species, also up to 31st January with respect to the date of 20 first established. The days allowed for the two species of thrushes are 23, 24, 27,30, and 31 January 2021, while for the aquatic ones it is 24, 27 and 31 January 2021.
An important choice that gratifies the Apulian hunters and that contrasts the anti-hunting drifts in place in Italy, which would like to restrict the seasons unnecessarily, together with the species and areas in which to carry out the hunting activity. Hunting Federation thanks the Puglia Region, the Councilor and the competent Offices with the officials for the work done, and expresses satisfaction with the technical and legal contents of the resolution which deals with all the important points for the deviation from the ISPRA opinion and precisely analyzes the pronouncements of Administrative Justice, thus amply motivating the choices made.
An even stronger satisfaction for Federcaccia and its Research Department are the quotes from our studies on song thrush and teal, as well as the technical approach, referring to the Italian and regional reality, which bases the correctness of the season up to 31 January on data.
