La Ponza Island Ringing Station has provided new updates on the catches of the last few days, not very simple to tell the truth. On 11 April, in particular, a big reed already ringed in Hungarian territory, a news that has partly alleviated the sorrow for the few daily catches. In detail, the trend was characterized by 4-6 birds every hour, even if there was no lack of catches of a certain interest and importance.
For example he was caught the first beccafico of the season: it is one of the species that are usually more abundant among the activities of the island station. In addition, there was no lack of specimens of white luì, scops owl and greenfinch. The wind influenced the various operations, so much so that it was possible to barely fill 4 ringing register cards.
Another welcome surprise was that of a nice little mouse. The first month of the 2018 season in Ponza was therefore hard and complex: the bad weather gave no respite and part of the station was even damaged, testing the patience of volunteers. The days of peaks were long in coming in terms of catches, but there were, in particular the nocturnal "robin" which allowed to ring well 300 birds in one evening. The thanks of the station could only go to the volunteers and their contribution, since they are and will always be the petrol for its engine.
