Most people know little or nothing about nourish. Often mistaken for beavers (but just look at the tail to distinguish them), here someone, don't ask me why, has long wondered if the nutria was edible. A group of "volunteer tasters" of Castelnuovo Sotto. These brave modern heroes gathered at the Meletole sports center and fearlessly tasted a nutria-based dish prepared by Gino Bedogni, cook of the same sports club and hunter specializing in wild hare or pheasant meat.
The aim of all this was not only to demonstrate that the meat of the nutria was suitable for human consumption, but also that it can be thought of as such. not only from the point of view of damage to the countryside, to the native species (the nutria, in fact, is an animal imported from America: some specimens escaped from the farms, here it is reproduced in an uncontrolled way here with us, damaging and stealing the habitat from other similar native species) and on the banks of rivers and canals, but also as an ingredient suitable for gastronomy. Roberto Cocconi, city councilor, explained that people with different tastes have come together to participate in this gastronomic experiment.
Apparently everyone liked the nutria alla cacciatora (the meat is fat and tasty), demonstrating that this animal, considered harmful to the territorial security, can become a food product after being hunted. The only ones who are not happy about it are the otters who, from the height of their philosophizing, do not find substantial differences between being hunted because consider a pest and being hunted to be eaten. However, it is certainly not the first time that someone has decided to eat nutria meat. The mayor of Scorzè had already done it in 2019 and he too had defined it exquisite. Then the Pro loco of Novara had tried to organize a nutria dinner, but the ASL had blocked the project. And only last year a bartender from Mantua who served nutria meat was denounced for trade in harmful food substances (Dissapore).
