The series of overlapping Regal fully demonstrates the ability of Rizzini to bring the lines of these superimposed to levels of refined elegance where the design of the whole and of the details is combined with a substantial technical base and an extremely accurate realization that fully motivate the quotations. It is worth pausing for a moment on this numerical entity to consider the trust that the whole company places in itself and in the various operating branches that range from executions to knowledge of its market, to divinations of what customers will want in the near future, to solid commercial capabilities. Rifles with prices ranging like these in question between over 6.000 and almost 7.500 € require skills and mastery in the aforementioned sectors: we are pleased to consider how we have not flattened ourselves on first price products that certainly have their validity raison d'etre, but which do not do justice to the past, present and future of an art that the whole world envies us.
In these two models then the engraving represents an almost essential obligation: it is true that a smooth edition, followed by a deep burnishing, gives the measure of the golden hands of those who pull files and abrasive papers, but equally a substantial work of burin or chisel allows the gunsmith / engraver binomial to express a work that can be enjoyed by a greater number of possible buyers or in any case enthusiasts with specific skills. So let's see first the metallurgical and technical part.
Materials and setting
The action is made from a forged 18 NiCrMo5 steel where the various additional components, nickel, chromium and molybdenum, guarantee toughness, hardness and workability to the basic iron and carbon element: tool work with numerical control machines or electro-erosion, according to the purposes to be achieved, they bring the piece almost to perfection, then on these models the total manual finishing is the added value that is perceived already from a careful visual examination, even before carrying out the opening and closing movements or proceeding to the decomposition of the 'weapon.
Still on the subject of materials, the barrels are machined from C42 bars, carbon steel with particular elasticity as required by the finished piece. This feature, together with the drilling section with the studied slope of the connection cones, is perceived and appreciated by the careful shooter, producing optimal shot patterns and returning a very low recoil. The components are obtained with the procedures most suited to every detail, but always with the steel to act as a guaranteed base in terms of strength and appearance.
Let's give a quick nod to the system of seals and closures to which the joint of the barrels is combined: the latter takes place with the system of the breech monobloc with full side ribs as well as the upper rib whose small dimensions enhance its elegance sublimated by the very classic round brass front sight. In the monobloc the earlobes are obtained with the support bases and the pair of low rear tenons with the recess for the stop; furthermore, the guides for the sliding of the ejector stems, their register and the release tooth are obtained in the sides, all in a pleasantly finished surface with rosettes.
We find the complementary part in the U-shaped interior of the receiver with the two front hinge turns, appreciably without protrusions of any kind, followed by the half-pins with their trapezoidal reinforcements and, just above, the cam tracks for primary extraction; on the bottom run the two struts for mounting the batteries with lateral offshoots for controlling the ejectors: along the way they cross the central relief against which the lower tines of the tenons engage in order to counteract the forward motion of the barrels. Finally, the large block controlled by the key reaches the double mortise of the tenons themselves, guaranteeing closure. It is the Gardonese system that combines an adequate yield with an affordable executive cost.
The aesthetics
Observing the two complete shotguns, especially if you have the now so obsolete passion for long barrels (they are offered from 67 - 71 - 76 cm) you can enjoy a nice glance: the refinement of the lines is enhanced by the details. The receiver with the long plates is harmonious and slender thanks to the rounded profile which optically reduces its vertical mass; the polished calyxes of the double breasts are lowered producing the mirror-drawn lateral reinforcement. The beautiful RB monogram stands out on the back and the intact convexity of the surface can be appreciated thanks to the extension of the interlocking bridge which first of all allowed the quick working in the open of the mortises, then making them blind with a pleasant appearance.
Still to underline the integral pin wrench: the long body, of good thickness and convexity, adhering to the receiver and the elegant oblong button make it a classy detail. The trigger is controlled by a single golden trigger protected by the guard: the oval extends into the hand guard following the pistol grip and inserting itself into the metal guard, also engraved: a system worthy of an express. The woods are an integral part of the success of the complex: the walnut, grade 3 in De Luxe and even grade 4 inExtras, arouses a lively appreciation for the color of the background, the brown of the veins, for the classic lines of the stock and pistol grip, for the design of the forend with the release button embedded in the wood, without cap.
To finish, let's look at the incisions made in the Cesare Giovanelli workshop. In De Luxe model all surfaces are played with drawings of foliage in the Renaissance style, strongly highlighted by the relief and shading of the dotted background.
Similar style of engraving in the Extra model further embellished by two pairs of wild in flight placed in the rear apex of the folders. The merit of such a work lies not only in the refined execution, but equally in the right relationship of class and elegance with the shotgun itself: nowadays it is not so obvious.
