Hunting in the Province of Cosenza: The project to safeguard the rock partridge has started.
Cosenza, 7 April - The action to safeguard some endangered fauna species, initiated by the provincial councilor for Hunting and Fishing, of the Province of Cosenza, Biagio Diana, continues.
In recent days, in the presence of the agents of the State Forestry Corps of the local Sangineto station, the agents of the Provincial Police of Cosenza, Giuseppe Raimondi, project manager and some hunters from the Santagata d'Esaro club, including the president Antonio Lombardi, twenty-two pairs of rock partridges were released into the wild, between the mountains on the border of the municipalities of Sangineto and Sant'Agata d'Esaro, while a recall pair was left in the aviary for the reproductive period.
The project is aimed at guaranteeing the conservation of the Rock Partridge (Alectoris graeca graeca), considered "priority" by the European Directive for the protection of birds with regard to conservation interventions.
The survival of this species is currently particularly threatened by the fragmentation of its range, by the increase in natural predators, by the abandonment of pastures and mountain areas once cultivated.
Through this project, a series of actions to protect the species will be carried out, mainly aimed at identifying and reducing the main factors that represent a threat to the species itself.
