Michael Cossa, councilor of the Sardinia Region (Riformatori Sardi), has presented a question to shed light on the excessive number of deer and wild boar which are making the situation impossible in different parts of the island. One of the areas most involved is that of Sulcis Inglesiente, the history of the Sardinian region located in the southwestern part. The overpopulation of ungulates is causing damage to crops, so much so that compensation from the Region itself has become higher and higher.
Diseases are a real risk and Cossa also spoke of a possible transfer to less populated areas. There are more than 8 thousand deer, while wild boars have exceeded 35 thousand units, impressive numbers to say the least. The overcoming of the limit of this type involves a defense of nature through pathologies, which are transferred very easily from wild to farm animals.
In the question, the situation of some areas was mentioned, in which there are more than 20 deer for every square kilometer. In Trentino Alto Adige they are killed when the 4 specimens, in Sardinia it has gone further five times. The request of the regional councilor is that the junta does not stand by and intensify the transfer of ungulates: otherwise, the only valid alternative will be that of controlled hunting.
