La 2019 season of the station ringing at the Island of Ponza, off the Lazio coast, officially began a little less than a week ago. Thanks to the organizers it is already there a good report of the days with the first catches. Here is what was written on the first day: “The 2019 season has started! Starting Thursday 7 March our opening team set to work to assemble the station for the 2019 season. Preparations finished on Saturday at noon.
A redstart opened the dance and in all, during the day of Saturday, March 9, they were taken 44 birds, including, in the evening, even 2 swallows! The swallows have perhaps exploited these 'apparent spring' weather conditions. In fact, during the editing, we were graced by the good weather… .but forecasts tell us it won't last long and a storm should start already in the next few days! Here is the note released in the last few hours: "The weekend has pardoned us, bringing many different species to our nets for a total of 47 catches during the Sunday.
The first actual week of activity, however, begins with bad weather. On Monday we only kept open until 15.30pm, which we got to with only 15 birds caught in all. The networks continue to be closed since the storm rages on the island of Ponza. We take it as an opportunity to rest after the great assembly work and seasonal opening of the station! ”.
