Il National Park of the Lucanian Apennines Val d'Agri Lagonegrese will carry out this morning, Thursday 10 May 2018, the reintroduction of several specimens of Italian hare. The chosen area is that of the protected area of this natural park of Basilicata, to be precise near the town of Sasso di Castalda (in the province of Potenza). The intervention is part of a larger project that takes the name of "Conservation of the Italic Hare", an initiative of which the park authority is a partner and which is financed by the Ministry of the Environment.
Already at dawn today it was done capture of hares, all coming from another Lucanian park, that of Gallipoli Cognato Small Lucanian Dolomites (in the Matera area). The aim of the reintroduction is to create a stable population for this species in the Lucanian Apennine area. Furthermore, another goal to be achieved is that ofdeepening of knowledge of the species.
The project also includes other interesting initiatives, including the construction of an experimental farm in a structure designed in the wildlife area. The premises for the recovery and spread of the Italian hare they are good and rather intriguing, among other things the Ministry has assured that the funding will continue in the future.
