“The number of samples of the wild boar species is growing sharply Parks of the Basilicata region”. This is what the Councilor for the Environment, Territory and Energy, Cosimo Latronico, states in a note, following the monitoring of the animals collected throughout the month of July 2023. "In particular - continues Latronico - we note a significant increase in the number of samples of the wild boar species, in particular in the Pollino Park, in the Vulture Park and in the Gallipoli Cognato Park, through the various shooting techniques, selective control from a fixed stakeout and capture using cages".

"In detail, - explains councilor Latronico - thanks to the impetus given by the National Commissioner for African swine fever and the collaboration with the Directorates General for Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and Health and Personal Policies, in the last quarter of 2023 ( May – June – July) the sampling of 27 animals in the Vulture Regional Park, 31 animals in the Gallipoli Cognato Regional Park and 407 animals in the Pollino National Park was recorded”.
Actions to be intensified
"Following the monitoring activities carried out by the Parks office of the Directorate General for the Environment, Territory and Energy, - underlines the representative of the Regional Council - from June 2022 to the entire month of July 2023, a total of 1.871 animals of the wild boar species in the parks mentioned above. In compliance with the commissioner's orders and the changed regulatory framework - concludes Latronico - we will continue, with the help of the Parks Office and the General Management, to give further impetus to the managers of protected areas, and in particular to the Lucanian Apennine National Park and to the Regional Park of the Rupestrian Churches, so that the invitation to intensify all the planned actions aimed at containing the wild boar population present in the regional territory is implemented” (source: Basilicata Region).
