La Province of Alessandria has formalized in recent hours the plan for the complete eradication of minilepre species in this area of Piedmont. The animals in question originate from North America and usually do a lot of damage to various agricultural crops, not to mention the negative consequences for other wild species. The alternative name is that of cottontail, while it is called in the way it is most remembered for its similarities with the hare and its small size.
The provincial plan was renewed until 2023, therefore for the next four years it will be necessary to cull all the specimens present. This is why the local authority wanted to point out that it is absolutely not a containment but of an eradication. The League for the Abolition of Hunting (LAC) has made itself heard in this regard. The association is ready to appeal, recalling the same provision adopted for wild boars.
However, the species is in supernumerary in the Alessandria area and the Province has been forced to extend the plan. The killing we are talking about will take place in special restocking areas, in addition to the territories of the hunting faunal companies. Nor should it be forgotten that the qualified operators will take action following the prescriptions of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA).
