Too many wild boars around, a number that rose in concomitance with the pandemic even in inhabited areas. And the Province of Lucca runs for cover, while also thinking about the delicacy of certain situations, such as the proximity of wild animals to inhabited centers. The new regulation of the voluntary security guards (GGV) launched by the Provincial Council of Lucca last February is in fact expanded with new aspects related to education in schools and the correct relationship as well as the coexistence with the wild fauna present in the provincial territory. The assembly of the Doge's Palace, in fact, during the last council meeting, approved one by unanimous vote of the assembly amendment to the regulation which concerns art. 13 on Wildlife for information, training and containment aspects.
The Volunteer Security Guards are basically hunters members of various associations, but trained and made responsible for the issues in question. They can participate in selective killing or capture together with the provincial police. «The amendment to the regulation represents an improvement and a wider articulation of the commitment of the security guards - explains the provincial councilor Andrea Bonfanti who has the delegation to the provincial police -. We have accepted some suggestions that emerged during a meeting between myself, the officials of the Province, the provincial police, the hunting and environmental associations, who aim at a greater involvement of both the guards and the citizens to stem the worrying approach of ungulates in particular to the inhabited areas of the territory ".
"The wildlife containment, in fact, it must be implemented far from urban centers - underlines Andrea Bonfanti - and also involves the implementation of a series of actions on which citizens will be specifically made aware: the cleaning of the undergrowth areas and the abandonment of waste in the border areas to name a few. On these points and not only the 33 municipalities of the province will also be involved ". In essence, the Province of Lucca, through the Provincial Police, through the additions to the regulation, promotes collaboration with the Voluntary Security Guards for the implementation of actions that promote the coexistence of citizens with wildlife.
Among these actions - envisaged in the Executive Management Plan and in other programming acts - civic education interventions in schools are hypothesized to disseminate and inform students about the correct culture of the citizen-wildlife relationship; information and training interventions as well as support to citizens who highlight difficulties or problems in the relationship with wild animals. Finally, checks will be increased in areas not suitable for hunting where the presence of wildlife is reported (The nation).
