THEISPRA (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research) has accepted, in recent days, the proposal drawn up by Province of Verona in agreement with the Veneto Region for the experimental plan di selection of wild boar on Monte Baldo for the 2019-2020 season. Furthermore, the organization suggested to the Bodies to extend the hunting period for ungulate selection from January 31st - date indicated in the proposal drawn up by the biologist Ivano Confortini - in spring.
The Province therefore informs that ISPRA has concluded its opinion, mandatory and binding, inviting them to implement the withdrawal period to combat more effectively the damage that the animal causes to agriculture and the danger it can represent both on the roads and for the biodiversity of an environment like that of the Baldo. Accepted, among other points, too the quantity of the expected levy, or about 400 animals per year, of which 300 through selection hunting, and the hours for the same hunting activity, extended until midnight by virtue of the nocturnal habits of the animal especially in summer.
In the next few hours, the technicians of the Province will meet their colleagues from the Veneto Region. In fact, it will be up to the latter to decide which will be able to initiate the wild boar hunting also on Mount Baldo. "We are one step away from a solution to limit the damage and dangers caused by wild boar in one of the most extraordinary and delicate areas of the Verona province - says the President Manuel Scalzotto -. Thanks to the Region and to the Councilor Giuseppe Pan, for having responded immediately and with concrete actions to the requests for help from those who live and work on the Baldo ”.
