Hunting: Viterbo, the new Wildlife Hunting Plan approved by the Province; for the commissioner Ambrosini, “the result of a broad and effective consultation”.
The Provincial Council unanimously approved yesterday morning the new Wildlife Hunting Plan, presented and illustrated in the classroom by the Councilor for Agriculture and Hunting Luigi Ambrosini. The Plan, whose elaboration process began in 2004, was implemented by the Province with the decisive contribution of the Dafne (Department of Sciences and Technologies for Agriculture, Forests, Nature and Energy) of the University of Studies of Tuscia under the coordination of Professor Andrea Amici. The drafting of the Plan was necessary to standardize the provincial regulations on the subject with national and regional regulations, and to establish a balance between the need for conservation of the fauna heritage, the enhancement of natural areas, parks and reserves, performance of hunting activities and the protection of agricultural crops damaged by the constant proliferation of wild boars.
“The Plan - explained the commissioner Ambrosini - went through a long and complex gestation characterized by a wide consultation with all the interested realities. From a careful and detailed analysis of the situation and territorial needs, we moved on to the practical phase, through an active comparison with the agricultural, environmental and hunting world, collecting proposals and suggestions, evaluated and implemented in the preparation of the tool. Particular attention - the commissioner specified - was placed on the problem relating to the damage caused by wild boars to agricultural crops. In 2012 in the provincial areas the extent of the damage amounted to 460 thousand euros, the previous year even to 580 thousand euros ".
Continuing, the commissioner reported, “Excessive figures for an organization like ours that has to deal with increasingly unsustainable economic hardships. The Plan therefore, in full compliance with national and regional directives, defines a serious planning, with the aim of protecting the economic interests of Tuscia. For this purpose, the boundaries of the areas subject to hunting activity and of the repopulation and capture areas are outlined, establishing the right balance between the conservation of the fauna and the necessary agricultural safeguard measures, through precise actions to contain the wild boar species. . All with a view to absolute environmental compatibility ".
A Plan that has been repeatedly examined and discussed by the Provincial Wildlife Technical Committee and the Agriculture Commission of the Province of Viterbo. “The unanimous approval of the Provincial Council is the best certification of a useful and constructive consultation process” concluded Ambrosini.
