Hunting with wild boar. On last Saturday alone, two large ones were shot down in the Pescine area boars weighing 160 and 140 kilos respectively. Two beasts of really considerable size.
Already spotted during the first stages of this hunting season, Piedone and Golia (as the two boars had been renamed), were killed on Saturday by the civitellino Andrea Vegni and the Rocchigiano Maurizio Ricci, respectively Canaio and "mail" of the association n.99, that is the old Roccastrada team. "Vegni - tell his companions - managed to stop Piedone's race after three shots, when the animal, chased by dogs, had come very close to him".
In short, two extraordinary jokes for the formation led by Flavio Boncelli, those of Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November. First the record with the two forest giants shot down at the end of exciting hunts, then yesterday eight trophies still in the Pescine area, with Andrea Verucci who managed to shoot and kill five wild boars. Top scorer of the day throughout the Maremma.
The old team from Roccastrada thus leaps to thirteen heads after four days of hunting. Elsewhere there are better numbers, it is true, but not everyone can boast prey like Piedone and Goliath. The team's butchers worked hard over the weekend to arrange the meat and portion it out.
A shower of photographs were taken by the younger hunters to immortalize the prey, but even those with some experience were amazed by the two heavyweights. In the area there are also other wild boars of this size. For the moment the 160 kilos of Piedone are the record to beat ...
