Wild boar hunting: The Marche regional council approved the extension of the wild boar harvest in January 2011.
Paolo Petrini announces it, vice president and councilor for hunting. "We have approved the continuation of the boar hunt - he said - 3 from January to 31 2011, on the basis of the requests received by the Provinces, so that the pre-established objectives, in terms of protection of agricultural production and road safety, are achieved.
The collection will be allowed for three days a week at the hunter's choice, without prejudice to the hunting silence on Tuesdays and Fridays, within the limits established by the individual provincial plans ". The Marche Region in July 2010, explains a note from the institution, established the maximum density value that the species can present on the territory, through a ratio between the percentage of crops and population density.
The Provinces must therefore provide for a division of the territory under their jurisdiction with three levels of density: tending to zero, no more than two individuals per square kilometer and, the third level, no more than five. Subsequently, in order to contain the species to an acceptable level, the Regional Council, in collaboration with the Provinces, approved extraordinary containment plans, in the period 15 February - 31 March 2010.
With the current hunting calendar it was then established the advance of the collection of the wild boar on 2 October with closure on 2 January 2011, also providing that if the set objectives were not achieved, further hunting periods would be approved, always in January 2011.
Objectives which, according to what was reported by the individual Provinces, were not achieved, also due to adverse climatic conditions. Hence the need for the extension arranged with the approved Council deed.
