Cacciarella: Wild boar hunting is done by experienced men, who organize themselves in groups to achieve a common goal. Canai, posts and beaters will all be organized by the experienced and impartial head of the hunt.
When we talk about hunting, be sure of it, we are referring to a team hunt, but above all to a hunt entirely aimed at finding the King of the Wood: the Boar. Intelligent, elegant, proud, he is an ungulate that has enlivened the sleep of more than one hunter because the challenge he throws at him is one that really cannot be refused.
And the hunter man, to capture this wild, has often organized himself in a team, distributing tasks and roles to several members of the group working for the same purpose. The team must be collaborative, organic and all intent on achieving the goal: the capture of boar. On the other hand, everyone will participate, at the end of the game, in the division of the game bag.
The Cacciarella is precisely a type of hunting that sees the man in a team. The group will be well organized between canai, beaters and stalls and well managed by the huntsman.
Canaio is a very delicate role; not only will you have to have a truly enviable experience and knowledge of the hunting area, but you will also have to be a lover and even better owner of the dogs than the wild boar, essentially they will hunt.
The periods during which the hunt is closed, the canaio will be completely occupied with the training of its hound, its maintenance and its care. She will have to forge a relationship of true friendship with him, unique and profound, which will then be tested during the hunt.
During the hunt, the purpose of the canai will be to find the animal and put it on the run. Capturing is the aim of the other members of the group. This is why the canaio must know the territory perfectly: visibility is not always excellent, and the risk is to lose sight of the wild boar due to wrong paths. Once the wild race has been diverted towards the post office, the role of the canaio can be said to be over. The risk of the role is to get the boar out of the batting area; in fact, it happens that the canaio, caught by the heat of the hunt, rather than direct the boar towards the post office, tries to shoot it, putting the success of the day at serious risk.
The role of the post is no less important. It is positioned since hunting chief at the beginning of the bar, and the aim is to cover each edge of the previously chosen perimeter. Obviously, the posts will be placed in the points where the boar is most likely to try to escape. The hunting chief will therefore have to demonstrate a certain knowledge of the territory and an undisputed experience.
An element to be taken into strong consideration is the distance between the posts, which mainly depends on the visibility offered by the area where the hunting trip takes place. It is therefore impossible to give precise data without having first seen the terrain.
The absolute rule, which takes very little account of visibility, is instead that relating to the position of the post according to the wind: this must always be in front of the hunter, so that the wild boar, endowed not only with intelligence, but also with a five-star sense of smell. , do not perceive the intense human smell and run away. For the same reason, a good hunter knows that before a hunt it is better not to use particularly intense perfumes. Smoking is even not recommended.
It is still true that if well hunted by dogs, the wild boar will take little account of the perceived odors, taken by other contingent problems.
Another fundamental element is that each post knows the position of the one or those nearby. In the direction of colleagues you must avoid pointing the weapon, for the safety of all.
Discussions for the assignment of stakes are something to be avoided: the huntsman will assign them impartially, taking into account the hunter's experience, and for their part the hunters will have to accept it without moving the waters too much.
The biggest mistake that a hunting leader could make is to leave portions of the perimeter empty: according to Murphy's law, which is also valid in the case of hunting, the wild boar will find an escape route in the only uncovered hole!
Finally we must remember the role of the hitter, which while not always appearing in all teams, becomes practically indispensable when the members of the bar are numerous. Usually these are canai that during that day have little to do with dogs, but cover places where there are no posts. From there they will direct the boars along the right paths screaming and shooting.
Having said that, let's remember that the hunt begins long before the beaters are placed: first of all you will have to mark the perimeter of the hunt, then look inside for the fresh footprints of the animal. This is an operation that certainly newbies will not be able to carry out, not easy especially when it has recently rained and confusing the new ones with the old tracks becomes really simple.
Only at this point will the stakes be arranged and at the start signal the mutes will be dissolved by the canai. If all goes well the dogs will find the wild boar immobilizing it with the barking and the canai together with the beaters will push the unfortunate wild boar towards the post office.
Obviously the lived experience has a completely different charm.
