Just three days from the "wild boar table" in the Region the farmers of Cia-Italian Farmers Val d'Agri report significant new damage caused by herds of wild boars in various areas of the valley near the Val d'Agri-Appennino Lucano National Park. It is above all the vegetable gardens and farms recently sown with corn that are invaded and destroyed by ungulates which continue to represent a problem for the safety of citizens. For Cia it is proposed again the problem of the presence of wild animals especially in the Park where they come out to reach the farms.
In this regard, the absence from the "Wild boar table" of representatives of the Appennino Lucano Park, unlike the representatives of all the other national (Pollino) and regional parks present. As was argued in the meeting in the Region, chaired by Councilor Cupparo, it is necessary that the Parks adopt measures to contain wild boars and in the event of non-compliance it intervenes directly. The situation of the Agri valley presents particular and increasingly alarming aspects that require extraordinary and emergency actions.
The farmers of the valley cannot be satisfied with the damages, inadequate and with long times, but they claim compensation for loss of income. it is urgent to adopt the fauna management plan by the Appennino Lucano park, an instrument which has not yet been adopted and which prevents it any further action of contrast and depopulation which is the only way to restore the right relationship between the fauna population and agrosilvoforestry territories.
Hence the request to Councilor Cupparo to continue the process started by identifying priorities for interventions as in the areas close to the Parks. For Cia pending the modification and adaptation of law 157/92 it is necessary to assign, with a specific governmental device, extraordinary powers to the Regions for the preparation of an extraordinary plan aimed at bringing in the right balance the relationship between the fauna population and agro-forestry territories in Basilicata up to drastically reducing the number of wild boars (source: CIA).
