For two years, the Province of Pisa has been implementing a control and containment program for wild boars, which are responsible for most of the damage to agriculture. The data released in recent days have amply demonstrated the success of these measures which have reduced expenses by 60%: from 180 thousand euros in 2007 to 70 thousand in 2009.
During these two years, an extraordinary plan for the control of the hunting teams has supported the ordinary management of the species by the ATCs with 1228 interventions to its credit against 529 in the past year.
As stated by Giacomo Sanavio, councilor for the defense of fauna, "the ordinary and extraordinary management measures adopted by the province of Pisa were based, on the one hand, on the need to intervene to prevent and resolve conflict situations with effective and suitable methodologies. to the environmental conditions of our territory, through the tools that can be implemented pursuant to art. 37 of the Regional Law 3/94. The novelty of the measures adopted and the need to build synergies and collaborations between various subjects did not prevent us from achieving good results from the first year ".
