Countering the damage that wild boars in the mountain area systematically cause to agricultural crops means above all exerting effective hunting pressure during the hunting period ”.
This was underlined by the president of the CIA, Cristiano Fini, following some reports of farmers in the Apennines who have noted a resurgence of wild boars in recent weeks. The meadows and alfalfa in prestigious areas where animal husbandry is linked to Parmigiano Reggiano were targeted. “An articulated management is needed to contain the damage caused by these wild animals - observes Fini - which starts from a prevention program even before the suids enter the fields. In recent weeks, with the complicity of the rains, the soils were soaked in water and the animals found a soft and more easily attacked earth, leaving holes everywhere, compromising the spring mowing and leveling of the land. Therefore, all the useful and necessary initiatives for the containment of wild boars within the acceptable limits must be implemented, where first of all the hunting activity must be given priority, within the limits of the rules established by the hunting calendar and the safety rules to be implemented ".
On the merits, the Modena CIA underlines the fundamental contribution given by hunters in pursuit, with the aim of strongly limiting the damage caused by ungulates.
The Confederation also stresses that protected areas and Restocking and Capture Zones (Zrc) are often a refuge for the wild, therefore the most affected lands, and where animals act more frequently. "The hunting calendar must also be improved, which allows for collection for longer periods and regardless of the climatic trend - concludes the president of the CIA - and the coordination of hunting periods and forms in the neighboring areas of the province of Modena".
