“The new regional law works. The culling of the wild boars in Lombardy they increased by 25% in one year despite two months of total stop imposed by the lockdown. They went from 2.900 in the January-September 2019 period to 3.932 in the January-September 2020 period ″. This was stated by the Lombard regional councilor for Agriculture, Food and Green Systems, Fabio Rolfi, presenting the data relating to the culling of wild boars in Lombardy.
Pragmatic Lombardy
“Here - continued the commissioner - we demonstrate with facts and numbers how to deal with a real problem. The government takes Lombardy as a national model. Excess wildlife causes abnormal damage to agriculture and is a danger to human safety; recent news events prove it too. Pragmatism is needed, while the Costa-Bellanova couple not only limit themselves to ideological initiatives, but also put a spanner in the works for those who really want to intervene ”.
What does the regional law provide?
“With the new regional law we have introduced the possibility to carry out selection hunting for wild boar throughout the year, even in the evening with a night vision device - added Rolfi -. Since last year, the foraging technique has also been practicable in Lombardy, i.e. the placement of small quantities of food to attract wild boar. The government's response was to challenge our latest regulatory changes. The Lombardy Region has exploited all the possibilities provided by the national law, which is now anachronistic with respect to the current needs of the territories. Farmers, mountain dwellers and mayors need answers. Not chatter and catwalks ”.
Road accidents, the numbers
“In 2019 - recalled Rolfi - in Lombardy we counted 128 road accidents caused by wild boar, practically one every three days, and the Lombardy Region reported 600.000 euros of damage caused by this species to agriculture. We are doing everything possible; it would be desirable that the state at least not hinder those who want to solve the problem ”.
Below is the total number of wild boar killing for each province (control plus selection) from 1 January to 30 September 2020 (and the comparison with the same period in 2019):
Bergamo 368 (the previous year they were 248), Brescia 318 (the previous year they were 137), Como 1.361 (the previous year they were 1.265), Cremona 103 (the previous year they were 58), Lecco 305 (the year previous year they were 203), Lodi 4 (the previous year was 1), Milan 64 (the previous year they were 8), Pavia 639 (the previous year they were 276), Sondrio 375 (the previous year they were 312), Varese 395 (the previous year they were 400). Total Lombardy 3.932 (2.908 in 2019).
In one year 1361 heads of wild boars killed ?????
We Como would also be protesters, however, in terms of containment of the wild boar species; we are the first in the standings with less than 600 raven hunters who practice this hunt, and the numbers prove it !!!!!!
