An anonymous threatening letter signed "Hunters Integralists Laziali" with the wording "Declaration of War" arrived this morning at the regional section of the Lazio WWF, with which hypotheses of damage to the Pian S. Angelo Natural Monument in the Viterbo and WWF Oasis, for which the Lazio Region is approving the regulation of the management plan so that the area is protected according to the law.
The threats also refer to other attacks at both regional and national levels. The letter arrives a few days after the stop decided by the Lazio Regional Administrative Court for the pre-opening of the hunt on 1 and 2 September at the appeal of our association and after our report of new killings of wolves also by poachers within the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise.
“We consider the content of the letter very serious - declares Vanessa Ranieri President of WWF Lazio - and also the aggressiveness developed by some hunters on the various blogs hosted by the hunting associations. We ask the latter to intervene by removing all offensive and violent posts. We will urgently file a lawsuit for the identification of those responsible, asking all law enforcement agencies today to increase controls to prevent any illegal conduct aimed at hitting the unavailable assets of the State and our association. Today we await the decisions of the Minister Catania certain that the hunt will be suspended for the reasons now known to all ”.
"On behalf of the Lazio Greens, I express my sincere solidarity with WWF Lazio which today received a threatening letter signed with the initials 'Cacciatori Integralisti Laziali' announcing damage to the Pian S. Angelo Natural Monument". This was declared by Nando Bonessio, president of the Verdi of Lazio.
“This is a very serious fact on which we ask the police to clarify as soon as possible. We also ask that the monitoring activity of the threatened natural monument be strengthened, as well as in all natural parks, given the recent events that saw the killing of two wolves, one on the Lazio side of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, and the other on the Abruzzo side. Reiterating our solidarity with the association, we make ourselves available to any initiative the WWF volunteers deem useful in order to safeguard the green and natural areas of our region. We would like to remind you that by cutting down on resources for the protection of environments rich in biodiversity, we are cutting the future of our children ”.
