On 23 and 25 March 2012 the 24th edition of the Pig Festival will be held in Senerchia in the province of Avellino.
The Senerchia pig festival born in 1989 has always been characterized as a popular and peasant festival. 23 years have passed since on tiptoe he took his first steps, when all the villagers were involved in the preparations in that small town square where the evening was cheered up with songs and dances.
The scenario of the party is in fact the town square, immediately involved in all its components, there is work to be done but also to have fun, you understand that it can work, a guarantee is the excellent product offered to visitors through a an initiative that wants to preserve customs, gestures and scents that time is slowly erasing from memory.
Then re-evaluate pig farming, which was particularly widespread among the Senerchiesi and represented, especially in the most difficult periods, a significant component of the local economy and for many families it was its main resource.
The firm and genuine meats come from animals that grow freely in the meadows and in hectares of uncontaminated wood; Senerchian pigs are fed exclusively with tubers, oak acorns, maize, chestnuts, fruits such as pears or apples and the classic "iotta" formed by a mixture of broth, bran and food residues.
The commitment and work increase over the years, rewarded by good fun and the excellent success of the event. For some years we have been experiencing a phase of great success, where the guarantee is the ancient one: the quality of the product and the excellent service offered.
The festival today is an appointment in the winter period, it attracts numerous visitors to Senerchia from all over Italy and abroad; the latest editions have helped to strengthen the bond with the Senerchian communities abroad and in northern Italy, in fact recording the presence of numerous emigrants from Nice and Imperia, specially organized to spend three days in Senerchia in joy and communion.
Thousands of people who, in the three days of development, fill the streets of this small community to taste and savor the ancient aromas of traditional dishes. The festival will take place from 19.30 to 24.00 in the adjacent square Corso Garibaldi di Senerchia (AV).
