National research shows this "ITALIANS AND HUNTING"and "ITALIAN HUNTERS AND HUNTING”Of the Astra Ricerche institute commissioned by CNCN and FACE Italia.
Monday 13 June 2011 at 11 am double presentation in Bologna with the sociologist Enrico Finzi in the "Sala Auditorium" of the Regional Headquarters in viale Aldo Moro 18, in the presence of the regional councilor Tiberio Rabboni
Bologna, 13 June 2011 - "The Italians and the Hunt"and "Italian Hunters and Hunting”The two most in-depth opinion polls on the hunting theme ever carried out so far arrive in Bologna with a truth that many do not know: Italians are not opposed to hunting as such. They are hostile to him, as are the hunters themselves, when it is practiced without rules and by poachers.
Given the deep-rooted traditions and the number of practitioners of the hunting activity that Emilia Romagna boasts, CNCN (National Hunting and Nature Committee) e FACE Italia (coordination that brings together the main Italian hunting associations: Federcaccia, AnuuMigratoristi, Enalcaccia, and Liberacaccia) they wanted to present in Bologna the results of two researches which, objectively and completely free from conditioning, give hunting and hunters a reading that is certainly more balanced and corresponding to the truth than that usually communicated.
The presentation was organized in Bologna on 13 June at 11 am in the "Sala Auditorium" of the Regional Headquarters, where the results of the two opinion polls "Italians and Hunting" and "Italian Hunters and Hunting" were illustrated. from CNCN and FACE Italia to the independent Institute Astra Searches, chaired by the sociologist Henry Finzi, which on this occasion, in addition to illustrating the general data, placed particular emphasis on those specific to Emilia Romagna and Marche.
Previous research, with much smaller opinion polls, seemed to give the majority of those against hunting over those in favor, but this study reveals a different reality: the majority of Italians (54% in the two specific regions) are not opposed to hunting and as many as 58% of the Emilia-Romagna and Marche regions are somehow close to hunting. The second research instead sketches a picture of how hunters live their passion which is also different from the usual one.
RESEARCH: ITALIANS AND HUNTING
From the analysis of the data relating to Emilia Romagna and the Marche, a fact clearly emerges: the pro-fighters are also in this case the majority (54%) of 18-80-year-old Italians resident, a figure also higher than the national average. In the two regions concerned, 22% declare themselves pro-hunting without reservations, while 32% are pro-hunting, but only if this is regulated, limited, responsible and sustainable.
The level of information on hunting is also fundamental in these regions, which was extensively investigated by first verifying the knowledge of eighteen limits to hunting, existing in our country. Here, too, only 28% of the residents (especially in small and medium-sized municipalities, pensioners, housewives, self-employed workers and students) he is aware that in Italy hunting is only allowed with very strict constraints.
The strong correlation between the notoriety of the rules, the consensus for them and the good evaluation of hunting is therefore confirmed: 44% of the residents know absolutely nothing about the subject and the rules that regulate it.
ITALIAN HUNTERS AND HUNTING
The portrait of the hunter that stands out is very different from the stereotype presented by the majority of the media. From the research emerges the image of a citizen who deeply lives his love for hunting (93% of the interviewees talk about love), but above all towards nature by dedicating themselves to outdoor activities in general (82,5%), engaging in social and voluntary activities in favor of the environment and the community ( 63% are engaged in various types of environmental activities, 38% are dedicated to firefighting and 20% work in civil protection).
Hunters have proven to be attentive and aware users of nature and fauna. Also in Emilia Romagna and Marche, in line with national data, a strong orientation emerges in favor of limited, responsible, legal hunting (69%) with the related concern for unlimited 'wild' hunting (57%). In fact, the overall emotional tone is that of a boundless passion, which however seeks and finds its limits in the rules and in their respect, in the rejection of any 'hunting fundamentalism', in the culture of prudence and responsibility.
It is placed in this perspective the figure that 97% of hunters from Emilia Romagna and Marche (well 7 points above the national average) hunt mainly in the Atc, evidently satisfied with what the free territory is able to offer in terms of biodiversity, wildlife and fauna, the result of a careful and concrete management commitment of the hunters themselves, whose effects are perceived by the whole society, also to the advantage of its image and the positive perception of hunting. Another important aspect is the economic weight of hunting: 54% of hunters spend between 2000 and 4900 euros in a season, with 12% spending between 5000 and 7500 euros and another 12% spending over 7500 euros. , creating employment for over 45.000 workers in the sector nationwide.
Finally, the research highlighted the political weight of the hunters, both locally and nationally, with the figure of 43% declaring that they are changing their electoral choices based on the positions of the various parties regarding hunting.
"By exercising his passion according to the meters of sustainability and the scientific and biological principles that regulate the dynamics of wild populations, the hunter constitutes a useful presence on the territory and a precious management tool - declared the regional councilor for agriculture, fish economy, wildlife-hunting activities Tiberio Rabboni - A regulated and sustainable hunt, conducted in respect of the environment, fauna and the territory can only have positive effects on biodiversity as a whole, in favor of the whole community. A greater knowledge of this role and an effective balance between wildlife and agricultural and human activities through effective management is the way for a different attitude of Italians towards hunting ”.
"Emilia-Romagna and the Marches - underlined the sociologist Enrico Finzi - they are among the Italian regions with the greatest hunting tradition and also those where the knowledge of the hunting population and hunters is greater, which here reaches 58%, while the favor for hunting - as long as it is legal, limited, responsible and sustainable - exceeds 54%.
A confirmation comes from the hunters themselves, imbued with a very strong passion for hunting and, at the same time, completely hostile to poaching, which for over three quarters consider the phenomenon that most damages hunting in Italy. In these areas of the country, the new basis of a true and renewed 'social pact' emerges, capable of combining the protection of the environment and protected species with the regulated practice of hunting in the context of European and Italian constraints. precise (and moreover shared by the clear majority of the Emilia-Romagna and Marche population) ".
“The regional tours want to be a response to the evident lack of correct national and local information on hunting activities, to counter the distorted image that until now has always found space in the collective imagination.
In fact, the general and particular data show that where hunting and the activity of hunters are better known, less is the closure or even hostility towards them - the managers of CNCN and Face Italia declare - With these two researches we have made important steps on the way to a necessary greater knowledge of the complex matter of hunting, inside and outside our world.
The information gathered is essential to give concrete answers to Italian society and hunters ”.
