Last January 3, therefore a week ago, they were shot down different pigs in countryside of Orgosolo, in the province of Nuoro. Now we know the results of the analyzes carried out to verify the presence or not of the African swine fever. According to reports from the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute, the positivity of animals has exceeded 80%, a figure that is nothing short of worrying and which is now in the hands ofDisease Eradication Project Unit in Sardinia.
There were 129 pigs analyzed and 105 tested positive, which means that there is still a lot of work to be done. The Orgolese countryside is also the epicenter of the disease, as clearly emerged in the last months of last year. The causes are easily understood: swine fever has an easy life thanks to wild grazing and the consequent continuous transmission of the virus between pigs and between pigs and boars.
This is why the Institute fears that the disease will remain forever in the island's territory. The Unit invited all farmers to register pigs in the wild. Hunters and farmers received a in-depth information, but the problem has not yet been resolved, which is why attention must remain high also and above all in the Sardinian hunting world.
