Catch cages
“Give new impetus to wild boar control actions in Murgia Materana Regional Park and of the Rock Churches”. This is what the Councilor for the Environment, Territory and Energy, Cosimo Latronico, states, following the publication of the exploratory notice for expression of interest aimed at identifying an economic entity for the awarding of the concession of the wild boar containment service using capture cages within the Murgia Materana Park in compliance with the intervention strategies for the eradication of ASF - African Swine Fever. “The service to be entrusted – explains Latronico – consists of the capture, collection, loading and transport of wild boars caught in the perimeter of the protected area using 10 trap cages provided by the Park Authority; the measure is implemented as part of the Inngreenpaf program - Implementation of good practices for the containment of the presence of wild boar in the territories of the protected areas of Basilicata to safeguard the habitats of the Natura 2000 network.
Measure concrete
In detail, adds Latronico, following the regional and national ordinances relating to the containment measures of the so-called 'PSA', the new governance of the organisation, chaired by Giovanni Mianulli, a few months after taking office, has put in place concrete measures to to the objective of collecting the animals envisaged by the African swine fever eradication plan, recently approved by the Bardi council, which estimates as many as 5.000 animals present in the perimeter of the Murgia Materana park.
A new impulse
“Basilicata – underlines councilor Latronico – has extraordinary conditions for which extraordinary interventions must be implemented. We are working with the Parks office to try to give further impetus to the control actions of the wild boar species within the framework of the new national and regional regulatory framework. This measure – concludes the Environment Councilor – is in line with the actions that are already being carried out in national and regional parks and protected areas, in synergy with the Management Bodies, with the National Commissioner for African Swine Fever and with the General Directorates Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies and Personal Health and Policies”.
