The Lazio TAR suspends the pre-opening of the Hunting Season in the Region scheduled for 1 and 2 September 2012, accepting the appeal of the WWF.
The hunters of Lazio thus see the possibility of starting the pre-opening hunting season in advance on Saturday 1 September as the TAR has decided to accept the appeal presented by the WWF against the decree of President Polverini concerning the pre-opening of the hunt; environmentalists are still not satisfied and are also calling for a total ban on hunting to prevent damage to ecosystems.
To go hunting, therefore, Lazio hunters will have to wait for the official start of the Season foreseen by the Hunting Calendar for 16 September; the judges of the TAR did not like the choice of the Region to grant the pre-opening period therefore they accepted the environmental appeal.
According to WWF exponents, the hunting pre-opening decree was approved in violation of the European Union Directives, "As every year now happens, the Lazio Region intended to bring hunting forward by two weeks, clearly contravening the EU Birds Directive. and ignoring, for species such as wood pigeon, the negative opinion of ISPRA, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research. But the TAR proved us right ”.
Great satisfaction was expressed by the president of WWF Lazio and the lawyer proposing the appeal, Vanessa Ranieri, who stated, "We are satisfied with the decision of the Lazio TAR which certainly prevented the planned pre-opening of the hunt on Saturday and Sunday. deliver a further coup de grace to the populations of wildlife already severely affected by lack of water and destruction of the reproductive habitat due to the flames ”.
Continuing the invective to the Region, Ranieri affirmed, "We really cannot understand the illogical criterion with which the Lazio Region, even after 24 hours from the adoption of the Hunting Calendar for 2012/2013, would have decreed an exception to the hunting period. , anticipating its start on Saturday, despite the obvious state of natural disaster that has seen our region excel in the number of fires and drought ”.
The environmental president continues attacking, “Logic, common sense and, above all, unanimous opinions of experts agree that animal populations, in the event of prolonged extreme climatic conditions, are subjected to enormous physical stress; the situation that was particularly evident this summer following drought, high temperatures and fires risks having, in the short and medium term, negative effects on the population dynamics of many species ”.
Ranieri also explains that “The national law on hunting in article 19 paragraph 1 allows the Regions to suspend hunting in the event of particular environmental, seasonal or climatic conditions. The exceptional period of drought, the very high temperatures and the enormous quantity of fires that crossed our regional territory in the full reproductive period are an incontrovertible natural disaster "therefore according to the WWF," instead of asking for an exception to the hunting calendar it would have been decidedly more appropriate and logical, on the contrary, to suspend the hunting activity ".
Finally, Ranieri concludes by hoping, "Now, with a stop to the pre-opening period to hunting obtained by our association first in Campania and now in Lazio, and then waiting for the minister Mario Catania, as stated, to meet the regional councilors at the 'Competent agriculture, in the meeting scheduled for 5 September, we really hope that the appeal of the associations to suspend the hunting calendar will be accepted so that irreversible damage to ecosystems is averted ”.
