Il Ministry of the Interior has published in the last few hours a very important circular that explains which guidelines should be followed in terms of firearms license and the various administrative procedures on the matter. Here is what we read in the document: “Since the identification and identity documents expiring or expired starting from 31st January are extended until August 31, 2020, the Ministry of the Interior considers the firearms permit and the GPG recognition book as included in the identification and identity documents, pursuant to art. 1 of Presidential Decree 28 December 2000, n. 445.
It follows that, in the event of the expiry of a firearms permit between 31 January and 31 July, the identification book will expire on August 31th, while the license - the sheet accompanying the booklet, which constitutes the actual qualifying title - will remain valid until 29 October.
The Ministry emphasizes that, in this case, the license continues to have its effects, and therefore allows the purchase, possession and carrying of arms, since personal identity can be demonstrated with another identification document among those recognized as such by art. 25 of the aforementioned Presidential Decree 445/2000 (identity card, passport, driving license, nautical license, pension booklet, license to enable the operation of heating systems, identification cards issued by a state administration with a photograph and stamp or other equivalent signature).
