As announced byANUUMigrators, the beginning of November was not exciting in the second part of the post-nuptial migration of all those species of our winged friends who in this period are used to offer us so many emotions. We refer to the Redwing, Peppola, Cesena and Passera scopaiola. In northern Italy, the great passes such as the Stelvio, the Gavia and the Forcella are now closed due to the snow that, in some places such as Livigno, in the province of Sondrio, has already fallen abundantly, whitening the mountain landscapes with the magical atmosphere that reigns in nature near the Christmas period and with the ski slopes already opened in advance!
Despite this, in some areas the environment remains penalized due to neglect and, as persistent seasonal weather approaches, suffers serious damage, sometimes irreparable. The view on the pass, therefore, in a period like the week just passed, which runs from 4 to 10 November (eve of the summer of St. Martin), can only be considered subdued. Redwing appeared in small but constant quantities. The Merlo was more numerous, while the Cesena appeared patchy, above all on Wednesday 6 and Saturday 9.
The Pipit and the Chaffinch are present in good numbers, accompanied by Brambling. On the other hand, the Frosone and the Siskin are undertone. There is good news regarding the Woodcock as well as a slight and anticipated movement of the Gadwall and some haggard flight of Pochards in the areas congenial to them.
