Hunting: Puglia, the new 2014-2015 Hunting Calendar has been approved by the Regional Council; Nardoni, “result of the comparison between the technical-scientific world, representatives of the hunting and environmental associations”. La Caccia opens on 21 September.
Certain rules and times arrive for the more than 22.600 Apulian hunters and for the areas subject to protections and prohibitions to hunting. Approved, in fact, last Tuesday on Regional hunting calendar 2014-2015. The start of the Hunting Season is set for 21 September and will end on 31 January 2015. The regional councilor for Agri-food Resources, Fabrizio Nardoni explained, “This is essentially the result of comparisons with all the parties involved: the technical world- scientific, representatives of the Hunting Associations and representatives of the environmental world ". In 2013, according to the report attached to the regional provision, there was a slight decrease in the number of animals slaughtered compared to previous years. This condition is probably due to the decrease in the number of regional hunters which in the last decade has been reduced by 25%. The analysis coordinated by the Regional Wildlife Observatory also highlights a continuous presence on the regional territory, during the hunting season, of wild fauna of huntable species, in particular of "turdids"," Beccaccia "," Colombaccio "and those sedentary as Volpi and Boars. For the latter species, although we do not have an estimate of the population density present in the region - says the Councilor for Agri-Food Resources of the Puglia Region, Fabrizio Nardoni - we are able to speak of an excess compared to the optimal densities, precisely by virtue of of the countless claims for damages made by farmers, especially in the provinces of Bari, Taranto and Foggia.
At present - reads the accompanying note attached to the Hunting Calendar - the Regional Wildlife Observatory is waiting to know the data relating to the study of the monitoring of migratory and sedentary fauna, undertaken by the Provinces, except for some cases, requested several times and solicited by the Regional Hunting and Fishing Service, reserving the preparation of “Management Plans” of wild fauna species, pursuant to and for the effects of current regulations and related indications.
The set of data coming from the elaboration of the hunting cards and from the fauna monitoring studies will converge in a database that will put the regional technical structure in the conditions of studying, in a more precise way, the phenology of migrations and the population density of wild species. The same reserves the right to do so as soon as possible on the basis of the material in possession and of that in the process of being acquired from the Provinces and from the provincial Wildlife Observatories. The wildlife protection areas (protection oasis and restocking and capture areas), public centers and other areas where hunting is prohibited as well as privately managed areas are identified by the regional hunting plan.
