In Salento there is already a protest by environmentalists against the ban for the repopulation of animals aimed at hunting for an amount of 90 thousand euros.
A public tender was recently launched for the repopulation of hares aimed at hunting in the province of Lecce, which immediately sparked the ire of environmentalists.
The Province of Lecce thus appointed the Management Committee of the Ruffano Hunting Territorial Area for the tender, providing for a special tender specifications for the supply of hares belonging to an indigenous species and originating in the Apulian or national territory. The total expenditure must fall within the limit of 90 thousand euros.
The issue sparked protests from environmentalists: "First the selective killing of wild boars was authorized, now a new animal species is destined to become the object of massacre in our countryside: the hare".
The provincial councilor for hunting, Salvatore Perrone, responds to the protests as follows: “This is money that the Region makes available to us and that we have to spend on wildlife restocking. We have already done it with other animal species, now it is done with hares, partly intended for hunting ”.
