Ungulates and control plans
Tuscany collects and distributes them to the neediest people game meats of the ungulates killed as part of the control plans for the containment of the fauna. It's mostly wild boars. It does so through Tuscany's food bank, with rigorous inspections before they reach the table. An action put in place by the Tuscany Region with a dual purpose, social and health, which comes with a resolution approved by the council and presented by the councilor for the right to health Simone Bezzini which assigns resources, a total of 40 thousand euros a year, to the health companies for the next two years, necessary to reimburse the costs incurred by the centers involved in the processing of animal meat.
Food charity
"Faced with the considerable availability of meat from wild ungulates killed as part of the Region's control plans - comments the vice president and councilor for hunting, Stefania Saccardi -, it was deemed necessary to encourage food charity and coordinate the territorial areas of hunting, or the territorial structures that plan the hunting activity at a territorial level: a way to respond to the needs of the most vulnerable segments of the population and those in a disadvantaged or marginalized condition”.
Inspections in machining centres
“The initiative – explains the councilor for the right to health Simone Bezzini -, in addition to the social objectives, also responds to hygienic-sanitary purposes. In fact, before being distributed, the meat will be inspected in the game processing centers by the veterinarians of the Local Health Authorities, called upon to carry out direct action for the prevention and early detection of any diseases that can affect wildlife and for the animal population which are particularly risky such as , for example, the African swine fever, of which outbreaks have been recorded in some Italian regions”. "It is therefore – he concludes – a significant action that contributes to increasing the level of health and hygiene safety in our region". (Source Toscana News)
