La Third council commission, chaired by Eleonora Pace, has decided to postpone the opinion on the proposal for a week Hunting calendar 2021-22 of the Board ofUmbria, due to the fact that the position of the Marche Region is not known on the debated question of the ban on hunting in mountain passes, which shares the Bocca Trabaria pass, the Carosina pass and the Fossato di Vico pass with Umbria. This further postponement was requested by Lega councilors Stefano Pastorelli (group leader) and Valerio Mancini (in charge of the hunt for the League), not satisfied with the written response requested to the regional offices to clarify every aspect of the crossing issue.
Opposition councilors Michele Bettarelli (Pd-Vice President of the Commission) and Andrea Fora (Civic Pact) abstained on postponement of a week. Fora also asked for a vote to give the opinion on the spot, after the assurances of the commissioner Roberto Morroni on the fact that the council will evaluate an economic intervention so as not to leave the burden of covering the damage caused to agriculture by this species exclusively to the wild boar teams. By a majority, the Commission said no to the immediate vote. Pastorelli and Mancini considered the written response expressly requested from the councilor offices to be unsatisfactory on the question of the ban on hunting in the passes, as it does not say anything about the position of the Marche Region, where the hunting calendar is not yet defined.
The representatives of the League want to avoid that there is unequal treatment between Umbrian and Marche hunters should the Marches also give the green light to hunting on mountain passes, which is not known at the moment. The offices of the Umbria Region have sent the commissioners the document explaining the reasons why the closure of the crossings could be adopted: on the basis of the monitoring carried out by theRegional wildlife observatory, the indicated passes would be affected by significant migratory flows, which is what we would like to preserve also by following the indications ofIspra, with a ban on hunting within a thousand meters of the passes themselves. And if this orientation were to change due to political will, it will be necessary to send to Ispra a new proposal for a hunting calendar.
The risk is that of challenging the act, which could lead to the request for suspension or possible cancellation of the hunting calendar. Councilor Morroni stressed that times are running out, because the selection hunt should start on 13 June also for the wild boar species and in any case the deadline for the approval of the hunting calendar is June 15th. The commissioner then proposed to approve it as soon as possible excerpt on the hunting of selection from the rest of the hunting calendar, hypothesis on which the Commission is working.
