Three hunters Umbrians, one from Rieti and two from Terni, had been arrested in Serbia for irregularities concerning the possession of unreported ammunition in Serbian territory; they return free after 25 days in prison.
On November 13, three Umbrian hunters went to hunting abroad, in the countries of the former Yugoslavia, as they had done so many other times; the three hunters, a former non-commissioned officer of the Forestry Corps of Rieti and two of his friends from Terni, lawyer and veterinarian, who arrived in Bujanovac a few tens of kilometers from the border between Serbia and Macedonia, had to renounce the hunting holiday because they were arrested by the Serbian police who led them directly to prison. Along with the three Italian hunters was also traveling a local guide who was released by the police and to whom the hunting dogs brought from Italy were then entrusted in custody until the matter was settled. The charge would have been that of attempted smuggling of ammunition as regards the hunting cartridges brought from Italy by the three hunters without having registered them after purchase as required by local legislation. Only after four days the three arrested hunters were able to inform their families of what was happening thus activating the Italian authorities, the Farnesina and the Italian Consulate in Serbia, as well as the lawyers in Belgrade who were thus able to present a specific application for release pending the hearing that would take place thirty days later.
Fortunately, the affair was resolved for the best with the release of the three Umbrian hunters after twenty-five days in prison. In fact, during the hearing held a few days ago, the local court found the three Italian hunters completely unrelated to the complaints that had been brought against them at the time of their arrest; furthermore, the judge did not find any administrative violations so the three hunters will not have to pay any fine.
