Hunting and Fauna: the governor of Veneto, Luca Zaia has declared himself opposed to the selective killing of deer in the Cansiglio Forests.
The president of the Veneto Region, who in recent weeks had expressed his doubts on the selective killing of about 1200 deer in the Cansiglio Forests, last Friday returned to the subject on the occasion of the signing of the protocol for the Montebelluna Est junction, underlining that the killing of Cansiglio ungulates would be counterproductive. “It would mean bringing all the spotlights of the world to Veneto - explained Zaia - and that this would have the region cataloged together with the communities that kill whales or dolphins. Therefore a negative communication of this type would not be allowed to a tourist region like Veneto, I would never allow it ”.
Zaia also added that his position is “exactly at the center between the environmentalist world and civil society and the just demands of farmers. I think that other solutions must be found - he concluded - including that of starting chemical sterilization projects for females through feed ”.
