LAV, LAC, WWF and Legal Intervention Group have decided to appeal in front of the Regional Administrative Court of Sardinia the regional decree relating to hunting calendar 2018-2019 with which the hunting of Sardinian hares, Sardinian partridges and wild rabbits was authorized. In the coming days, the LIPU will also join in the appeal. Based on the provisions ofDepartment of Environmental Defensein fact, there are two hunting days, that of 30 September and that of next 7 October.
Animalists and environmentalists believe that the game bag is absurd and that it could lead to the removal of almost 72 thousand hares and 144 thousand partridges. Furthermore, the appeal is based on the fact that the hunting of the species would have been authorized despite the little known size of the populations and the risks highlighted in the Sardinian hunting fauna plan. Furthermore, the challenge of the 2018-2019 calendar takes its cue from the opinion of ISPRA which in any case is not binding.
The potential game bag of wild rabbits is very close to 180 thousand specimens. Even during the 2017-2018 hunting season there were the same problems and the ban on hunting hares and partridges caused considerable discussion. Animalists and environmentalists have reiterated how there is no official census as far as these species are concerned, but only preliminary reports and guidelines.
