As explained by Donatella Spano, Councilor for the Defense of the Environment of the Sardinia Region, there will be time until next March to transmit the data on the culls and spring censuses of partridges and hares. The task is for the self-managed areas for hunting: the documents must be presented to the island provinces which are competent for the relevant territory. The Regional Council therefore accepted Spano's proposal after the initiative had been accepted by a majority during the last one Fauna Committee.
The choice is based on sustainable collection, taking inspiration from the guidelines of the ISPRA (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), in order to understand the situation of the two species in Sardinia. There hunting season 2017-2018 in this region it was characterized by the suspension of hunting for hares and partridges. The TAR had accepted an appeal motivated by the absence of data on the two animals and now the decision could avoid similar situations in the future.
The blockade sparked an endless controversy that continues today. Withdrawal plans will need to be prepared by May 31, 2019. In the absence of monitoring and statistics on killing it will not be possible to hunt and there will not even be the renewal of the concession to the hunting activity.
