The hunt will begin on Sunday 3 and Thursday 7 September with turtle dove, hooded crow and jay, followed by the general opening on Sunday 17 September. This year, the opening will also coincide with the opening of the sedentary nobleman, which will include three days of partridge, hare and rabbit hunting (Sunday 17, 24 September and 1 October).
Starting Sunday 17 September, several species will be huntable, including mallard, teal, gadwall, pintail, hooded crow, wigeon, coot, moorhen, jay, garganey, shoveller, water rail, snipe, whisker, blackbird, quail and fox.
For the woodcock, fieldfare, song thrush and redwing species, you will have to wait until Sunday 8 October, with the possibility of hunting until Wednesday 31 January. Lark hunting will be allowed from Sunday 4 October to 31 December, while for wild boar, the hunting period will be from Wednesday 1 November to 31 January. Thanks to the approval of the Management Plan for the species, the pochard will once again be part of the huntable species after years.
Finally, wood pigeon hunting can be carried out from Sunday 1st October until Saturday 10th February. Starting from 5 October, it will also be possible to hunt on Thursdays and midweek holidays, including Friday 8 December and Tuesday 26 December. The hunting season will end on 31 January 2024, with the exception of the lark, blackbird and quail, whose closing dates have been brought forward to 31 December 2023, and the wood pigeon, which will have a postponed closure to Saturday 10 February 2024.
The regional councilor for the defense of the environment, Marco Porcu, commented: “We are continuing the path undertaken in recent years to plan the hunting activity in advance and guarantee certainties for Sardinian hunters. This year we are collaborating with the National Institute for Dogs for the census of hares and partridges, which will allow us to monitor a greater territorial area using pointing dogs and obtain a more defined view of the presence of wild species being hunted. Furthermore, thanks to in-depth scientific studies, we were able to more precisely identify the starting periods of pre-nuptial migration of wild species.”
