ANUU Migratoristi takes stock of the situation of the migratory pass in our country in relation to the weather conditions of the last few days.
With the first drops of Thursday afternoon, with a good and continuous presence on Friday and with a weekend to soak, the hot summer 2012 is over. The feared and catastrophic visions on drought announced by ISPRA with its circular of mid-August have once again been sensationally denied by the facts, thus allowing a regular opening of hunting activities on XNUMX September in certain locations.
Indeed, there has never been such an abundant migration of the so-called trans-Saharan avifauna which is obviously making its magnificent flight towards the wintering areas where temperatures are still high. But, of course, ISPRA does not know the migrations of our winged friends.
To relate to concrete and incontrovertible data at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory of Arosio, which collects and coordinates these weekly news, there has never been such an exciting migratory step and the Black Nurses have made it a master, closing their business in the month. of August, which began on 4 August, with 486 subjects analyzed, for a total of 889 ringed birds including 102 Prispoloni including a recapture of a ringed subject in Sweden, 68 Beakcamps, 43 Common Redstart, 43 Flycatchers and many others species equal to a total of 39.
Worthy of note is the ringing of a collared Nurse, two speckled Forapaglie, three Golden Orioles, two Averle small, a Sterpazzola and the “classic” Agostano Frosone. For those who love statistics, the black Balia with its 486 specimens analyzed is in second position compared to 2002 where 497 subjects were ringed as for the monthly total that in that year there were 939 ringed birds.
So an excellent month of August 2012 in terms of numbers of ringings that have been taking place continuously and constantly since 1977 at the FEIN Ornithological Observatory in Arosio. This year the forecasts bode well for reaching the 180 thousandth specimen analyzed since 1997 as, at the end of August, the number of 178.786 ringed specimens was reached.
If all goes well, as is desirable, this should take place in mid-October. We'll see!
