We learned with great perplexity, from the media, of the presence on the our territory of a site identified by the Government as possible radioactive waste storage site. Obviously, we do not want to go into the merits of the engineering and geological considerations that led the technicians to make this choice, but there was certainly a lack of participation in the decision-making process of the population and, as we learn from the newspapers, also of representatives of local institutions.
Citizens of this segment of the Province of Siena, between the Crete, the Val di Chiana and the Val d'Orcia certainly have the right to know why they chose a protected area with stringent landscape constraints and the presence of Unesco sites, destined for fine food production, to a stone's throw from excellences such as wine, oil, cheeses and thermal baths that they certainly need no introduction. For us hunters, who live the territory by reaping the benefits, the health of the environment is an indispensable principle, which is why we want to understand and be sure that this choice is really appropriate.
We are aware that, as long as this waste is produced, somewhere they will have to be safely stored; we wonder, however, if one of the last “intact” territories of Tuscany, which is the backdrop to hundreds of postcards, is the most suitable place. For this reason we ask that our request for clarification be joined by the other Hunting Associations, Agricultural Associations, ATCs, all institutional levels and civil society, because this is a problem that cannot fail to affect us all closely (Fabio Tiberini - Provincial President of Arci Caccia Siena).
