An opportunity for the territory
“The meeting held yesterday morning on the management of wild boar was an element of connection between the management of the emergency and the adoption of "best practices" that can transform a risk into an opportunity for the territory". This was declared by the Councilor for the Environment, Territory and Energy, Cosimo Latronico, speaking at Lucanian Apennines National Park Val D'Agri Lagonegrese at the conference “The management of wild boar in the African swine fever emergency: Strategies and good practices”.
Monitoring activities
“For decades, wild boars have reproduced in our protected areas, which are numerous in our territory. In detail - continued the representative of the regional council - as a result of the monitoring activities conducted by the Parks office of the General Directorate of the Environment, Land and Energy, a total of 2023 heads of the wild boar species were collected in 1.945 in the Lucanian protected areas (150 specimens in the restriction zone 1 and 1795 in the free zone) through the various techniques of turning, selecontrol from fixed ambush and capture through cages".
Impulse for control actions
“Basilicata has extraordinary conditions – continued Latronico – for which we must implement extraordinary solutions. We have been working for some time with the Parks office to try to give impetus to the control actions of the wild boar species within the framework of the new national and regional regulatory framework. Much work has been done and much more work will be done shortly, in synergy with the new governance of the Lucano Val D'Agri Lagonegrese Apennines Park, with the National Commissioner for African Swine Fever and with the Directorates General for Agricultural, Food and Forestry and Personal Health and Policies” (source: Basilicata Region).
