With the establishment of the "Red Zone" in Calabria, due to the Covid 19 emergency, by the Government Authority, programmed hunting and self-control interventions on wild boars are also stopped. Many reports arriving at Cia-Agricoltori Italiani Calabria from all over the region (from Pollino to the Strait of Messina) by farmers, ordinary citizens and their representatives in the Territorial Areas of Hunting who, with a disarming anger, are witnessing the daily destruction of trees and crops, especially the autumn-winter sowing.
For years Calabrian agriculture has been subject to night raids with the destruction of crops by these ungulates, non-native animals which were released at the time for the sole purpose of hunting. Cia Calabria from the onset of the problem has always been alongside Calabrian farmers, even with street demonstrations, asking for strong interventions with extraordinary actions that went beyond, given the emergency, of the Law 157 / 92, and with a proposal to amend the same national law.
We are well aware that first of all we must think about health and about health safety of all citizens and the priority at this moment is the decisive and strong action of containment and contrast to the contagion of the Coronavirus, but if we do not intervene immediately on the boar problem, the two emergencies will bring the Calabrian farmers. Cia Calabria strongly asks the regional government and the national government for immediate interventions to combat the damage caused by this species, including the reopening of the wild boar hunting and the related selection and containment activities, authorizing the movement of interested parties.
