“The allocation of funds for the direct compensation of the damage caused by the wolf predations, but we remind the Region that an efficient mechanism is needed, with rapid timing and a method that, in addition to monitoring and prevention, can guarantee management that protect, first of all, livestock and those who live in our mountains and hills, given the multiplication of sightings and predations even at low altitudes ”. This is what Sara Baudo, president of Coldiretti Novara-Vco, and Paolo Dellarole with respect to the allocation of 300 thousand euros, approved by the regional council, for the compensation of the damages caused by the predations by wolves to the livestock in Piedmont and for the costs incurred in defense of livestock.
“In Piedmont alone - Coldiretti emphasizes - it is estimated a population of between 450 and 500 wolves when in France there are a total of about 550 and the tendency is that they go to occupy more and more areas of the territory, moving towards the north of the region, in particular towards the provinces of Biellese and Verbano Cusio-Ossola as well as in the areas of hills and plains. "It is therefore necessary - Baudo and Dellarole continue - to continue with the work started by the regional vice president, Fabio Carosso, at the State-Regions Conference with respect to the changes to the Wolf Plan, in line with what neighboring countries, such as France, are already doing.
It is therefore necessary to implement concrete and rapid measures in order to avoid the creation of an ecological imbalance and to allow, first of all, our companies to carry out production activities, in light of the role played in protecting the territory and given the difficulties linked to the pandemic situation. The commitment of Coldiretti Novara-Vco e Vercelli Biella to find solutions continues and our experts will participate in the working groups in the coming weeks ".
