Rossella Muroni, number one of Legambiente, contacted the Government directly to ask for the postponement of the hunting season by one month. According to the environmental association, the rules of safeguarding biodiversity must be respected, also because drought and fires must be taken into account they have exhausted the fauna. Furthermore, the request is based on the fact that several Italian regions have invoked the state of disaster.
The appeal concerns the governors of 14 regions, the Ministry of the Environment, that of Agricultural Policies and the Presidency of the Council. Legambiente expects the fauna to recover and there has been a reference to hunters: "They claim to be the first defenders of fauna. Well, they have a chance to prove it with facts". Muroni is also convinced that the hunting activity will disappear in a short time due to the generational change: in the meantime, Federcaccia Tuscany acknowledged the association's lack of extremism on hunting, but the proposal was returned to the sender.
The hunting association recalled how there are no more environmentalists than hunters, but the request to postpone the season a few days after the opening is absurd. Finally, respect for fauna and biodiversity should be approached with greater knowledge and awareness.
