La hunting community is increasingly concerned about the new cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) found in western Poland, not far from the German border, and in southern Bulgaria, very close to the Greek border. During the conference hosted by the MEP Marco Dreosto (Identity and Democracy) in the European Parliament on November 20, the growing threat of African Swine Fever was discussed with key stakeholders and members of the European Parliament.
The conference was attended by Dr. David Scallan to point out that “The hunting community is extremely concerned about the continued spread of ASF in Europe. All hunters must remain vigilant and report any suspicious cases, as well as adhering to high biosecurity standards. Hunters are key to fighting the spread of this disease. They are the first line of defense ”.
According to the FACE Secretary General, extraordinary cooperation is required to be successful in stemming the spread of the disease communication between associations of hunters, farmers and authorities: this cooperation is already underway and the hunting world wishes to continue its commitment to spread ever greater awareness. Hunters are key players in wild boar management and play a vital role in fighting the spread of the disease for this FACE has developed, in collaboration with its members, a series of recommendations for hunters in the preparation and management of ASF in the field.
