“Inexplicable and dangerous the position once again taken in total isolation by the representative of the Calabria Region in today's session of the State-Regions Conference with the agreement on the 'National plan for the management of wild turtledove' on the agenda. Maintaining the Calabria Region its attitude of denial, if it did not change urgently this unfounded orientation, the consequence would be to blow up the Agreement, risking to get the wild turtledove out of the hunting calendars for next season ", declared the Regional President and National Vice President of the FIdC. Giuseppe Giordano at the news of the position taken by the Region which risks preventing an agreement with ISPRA and the Ministry of the Environment so that the national plan can be approved.
Yet, already in the Regional Hunting Faunal Council last March, Giordano representing Federcaccia and also on the mandate of the other 6 recognized associations Anlc, Anuu, Arcicaccia, Enalcaccia, Eps and Italcaccia had forcefully asked for explanations on the unacceptable and contradictory position of the Calabria Region on the Tortora Management Plan, on which he had twice expressed his dissent to the pre-opening levy, in fact inexplicably modifying the decisions made in recent seasons and going against the same position of ISPRA to allow two days of collection for this species in pre-opening.
Equally to be clarified, and resolved, was the circumstance that had then and again today seen Calabria represented in the State Regions Conference on this point. by the Councilor for the Environment and not by the Councilor for Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing, competent for the matter. "On these points Federcaccia can only reiterate its opposition and hopes for a late, but still possible rethinking by the Region in compliance with the objective conditions of the species and the favorable position of the other Regions, which evidently they act on the basis of technical-scientific arguments and not on anti-hunting ideological positions. We hope that our Region does not want to take responsibility for an extremely serious act such as to blow up an agreement that had been laboriously reached, giving a slap not only to Calabrian hunters but to fans from all over Italy ”, concluded the vice president Giuseppe Giordano.
