The president of the Calabria Region, Nino Spirli, signed the ordinance n. 26 with which - in compliance with the measures for the containment of the Covid-19 epidemic - the carrying out of the selection activity for the wild boar species is arranged, as a "state of necessity to achieve the wildlife-hunting balance" and "Limit damage to crops", as well as to avoid the "potential danger to public safety". Restart also for sport and amateur fishing.
The methods
The selection activity for wild boars, for the purpose of containing Covid-19, must take place in the following ways: in the Municipality of residence; in the ATC of hunting residence; in the districts of registration for the removal of ungulates, "where expressly authorized by the competent regional offices, even if located in municipalities other than that of residence, domicile or home"; "Beyond the hours of 22, foreseen by the curfew in force, for the return to the home and in the event that the selectors take wild boar heads, to give the possibility to carry out all the operations necessary for evisceration and the respective health checks".
Dog training
The training of dogs in the permitted areas (hunting faunal companies, hunting agro-tourism and training areas) must take place - as reported in the ordinance - in the following ways: in the municipality of residence; in authorized structures, also located in municipalities other than that of residence, domicile or home.
The rules
The carrying out of the activities listed in the ordinance, to be carried out "exclusively individually", is to be understood "limited to residents of Calabria only, in compliance with the social distancing and the prohibition of gathering".
"In light of the new epidemiological data and the contextual return to the orange zone - explains President Spirlì - some practices related to hunting and fishing are authorized, as had already happened in recent months, when the grip of the virus had become, unfortunately for too short a time, less suffocating. Obviously, the restart of these activities - in which thousands of Calabrians are involved - must take place under the banner of prudence and respect for the rules. I therefore appeal to the common sense of hunters and fishermen, in the certainty that they will respect all the rules of distancing provided, that they will never fail to wear personal protective equipment and that they will scrupulously adhere to the provisions contained in this ordinance ".
Control and containment The first members have already arrived to the list of economic operators and commercial activities - prepared by the Madonie Park Authority - interested in the sale of wild pigs and fallow deer coming from selective control and numerical containment activities...
