Federcaccia Trapani: new frontiers of education, middle school students at the "Sagra del Cacciatore" in Valderice. The protests come from Milan.
The students of the third grades of the "Simone Catalano" middle school in Erice met the director of the Trapani prison, Renato Persico, and the commander of the penitentiary police Giuseppe Romano. During the meeting, organized by prof. Maria Chirco, the students had the opportunity to ask questions to the top management of the Institute who illustrated the work of the prison police, the life of the prisoners and the "re-education" the tools put in place by the management for the reintegration of prisoners into society. A good initiative.
There are schools that bring children to know the reality of prisons. And there are schools that bring children…. hunting (or almost). It happens in Valderice. where the school leaders of the Dante Alighieri Comprehensive Institute in Valderice have decided to let the students participate in the "Hunter's Festival", which they define as "environmental and gastronomic".
But what do the pupils have to do with a festival, mostly about hunting? This is a question that many people ask themselves, especially the parents of the pupils: some of them protested on the web, even asking for the intervention of Minister Carrozza. It was Federcaccia Trapani who organized the event "to raise awareness among young people to respect the environment through its protection and sustainable management".
The event comes to life as part of the eno-gastronomic review called «A Caccia di Sapori», which will take place in Valderice on Saturday and Sunday 18 and 19 May at the Auteri Fund in Sant'Andrea. The young students of Dante Alighieri di Valderice with the second classes will be called to clean up the coast of Lido Valderice assisted by parents, volunteers from the Hunting Association and citizens. The provincial president of Federcaccia Trapani Antonino Incammisa in a note stated that "the purpose of involving schools has a purely educational purpose and that in this case it is believed that there is no better educator than those like hunting associations, through their associates, they live and protect the territory in its entirety ".
But the event unleashed the web, many e-mails sent to the school management, which did not expect much fanfare, since last year it had already participated in the previous edition of the review. A teacher from the middle schools of Milan, who expresses "dismay" at the school's participation in a festival organized by hunters. "Do you realize - writes the Milanese teacher - that the violence and cynical exploitation of animals which are permeated by hunting are not only a bad example for children, but a dangerous basin that will enhance and increase the aggressiveness of children instead of educate them to respect life and nature?
