La Italian Federation of Hunting has the task of protecting and supporting the hunting activity in all its forms and through these guarantee an effective and regular management of the territory with particular attention to agriculture. In this regard, it is necessary to limit the damage from opportunistic species or in strong imbalance and supernumerary. This last activity takes the form of hunting voluntary work free of charge, without any burden for citizens, which carries out the containment and control of wildlife under the coordination of hunting offices of the Region, carried out in compliance with article 19 of law 157/92 which regulates hunting activities.
The species on which attention is focused for its strong impact on agricultural crops - as well as for the risks for circulation and public safety - is that of the wild boar. On this wild the form of collection that is most effective - as well as the most widespread and practiced - is that of the hunted in collective form. For these reasons, Federcaccia ER cannot share the indications of ISPRA, endorsed by the Region, to reserve the control operations of the wild boar species to the endorsement with a single dog and even more to the selection. Withdrawal in selection is effective with other rules and for other types of ungulates. For wild boar, on the other hand, as well as not being very effective in terms of yield and effective prevention of damage, it appears distorted in its founding characteristics, since it is used all year round, without a withdrawal plan and allowing the practice of baiting.
Federcaccia, on the other hand, believes that collective wild boar hunting, also due to its strong social values, should be better valued and protected. In this sense, a shared commitment by the Region should go, aimed at a serene and constructive confrontation between all stakeholders involved. For a balanced management of all species, greater involvement and empowerment of the foreman of the various teams is required wild boar hunting operating in the Region, which must be placed in a close and qualified relationship with the district referent.
In the light of the foregoing, therefore, Federcaccia Emilia-Romagna does not consider the application of the selection hunting form to wild boar as legitimate as solution to the problems of safeguarding and protecting agricultural products and to rebalance the species and deems it necessary to block the selection operations in clear and unjustified overlap with the control plans. Federcaccia Emilia-Romagna forwarded to the President of the Region application to cancel the boar selection hunt as it is currently exercised in Emilia-Romagna. The request was presented by the President of the Provincial Section of Bologna in agreement with the entire Federcaccia Regional Council. Federcaccia is confident that the Emilia-Romagna Region, which has always shown foresight in preparation of regulations of a wildlife-hunting nature, accept the application presented.
