Following the work and institutional contacts already perpetrated in recent weeks and the initiatives of the individual member associations, yesterday the Unitary control room of the hunting world (FIdC, Enalcaccia, ANLC, Arci Caccia, ANUUMigratoristi, Italcaccia, EPS, CNCN) sent to the hunting offices of the Regions some documents regarding the letter from the Ministry of the Environment dated 8 July last. In the letter, the Ministry invited - thus accepting a similar invitation received from the European Environment Commission on 19 June - to exclude species pochard and lapwing from hunting calendars.
In the opinion of the undersigned Associations, this request it finds no foundation either from a juridical or biological point of view, in addition to not taking into account, with regard to Italy in particular, the most recent national scientific data (which are favorable) and the hunting regime with strict collection limits for these two species already in place in our regions by many years, which actually constitutes a form of management plan. For this reason we have already tried unsuccessfully to make the Ministry understand (with a document sent last year 24nd June) the lack of foundation of the European request that it not be followed up, given its intention to obtain an unjustified limitation of the hunting calendars, among other things already issued by many regions.
The associations making up the control room find it correct to refuse the Ministry's invitation and therefore they invited the Regions to do the same, also supporting them with a technical memo sent to them for this purpose. Trusting in the seriousness and balance of the regional hunting offices, impartiality that the Minister unfortunately continues not to have on hunting issues - the control room will continue to provide all necessary support so that this, like other unjustified initiatives on timing and species, are rejected.
